Scorpions Come Back Late, Nip Downs
|
The Phoenix Downs got a sterling performance from pitcher José Romano, but the Scorpions still prevailed, 4-3. Romano was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Reliever Stephen Elam picked up the win. His record improves to 3-1. Jon Hawkins took the loss. Phil Johnson notched his 21st save in 23 chances.
Frank Wade drove in one run for Scottsdale. The 28-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jon Hawkins. It was his 40th RBI of the season.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Scottsdale manager .
The Scorpions bumped their record to 39-25 with this latest triumph.
