Fishers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Scorpions
|
The Wildwood Fishers picked up a win at The Stinger, knocking off the Scottsdale Scorpions, 7-4. Starting pitcher Randy Littlejohn, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The win was Eugene Miller's in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Warren Shoemaker took the loss for Scottsdale. William Cokinbred was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 7 save opportunities.
Had Danny Smith not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Smith hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Fishers.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Smith. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Wildwood improves to 88-49 with the win. They lead their division by 13 games.
