Downs Edge Past Hitmakers, 5-4
|
The Phoenix Downs faced a tough opponent in Motown pitcher Doug Turner, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Ashes by a final score of 5-4. Turner went 6 innings and allowed no earned runs. At 48-47, Phoenix is in second place in the Patriotic League Liberty Division.
Wynn Witt had the critical at-bat for Phoenix. With two out in the bottom of the 19th inning, he hit a walk-off run-scoring single. It gave Phoenix the 5-4 walk-off win.
"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Witt told the Phoenix Chronicle.
