Cummaquid pitcher José López gave the Scorpions all they could handle, but in the end, Scottsdale left The Squid's Beak with a 3-2 win. López allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits over 5 innings. Scottsdale reliever Stephen Elam picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Jerry Martin shouldered the loss. The Scorpions have an impressive 52-30 record.
The Scorpions got a big at-bat from right fielder Joey Connolly. For the game, Connolly went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the ninth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Scottsdale a 3-2 lead.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Connolly told the Scottsdale Citizen.
