Boomsticks Come Back Late to Top Downs
The Asheville Boomsticks did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Downs at The Ashes. Nobody did more than pitcher Vincent Harrison, who captured player of the game honors. Asheville reliever Dave Hopkins got the win, raising his record to 4-2. Jon Hawkins was tagged with the loss. Álex Castro notched his 6th save in 8 chances.

Lloyd O'Brian swatted a run-scoring double for Asheville in the top of the fourth. The right fielder went 3 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. He scored 1 run and batted in 2.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Harrison said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The second-place Downs have lost 5 straight games.
