The New York Moneymen relied on the hitting of right fielder Mario Rivera to stop the Motown Hitmakers, 4-1. For the game, Rivera belted 2 home runs. Pat Hunt got the win, improving to 13-10. He worked 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Henry Mathews, credited with the save, is now 41 for 46 in save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out in the top of the fifth inning. That's when first baseman Bert Cain, who is tied for 8th in the NL with a .371 on-base percentage, drew a walk. The Moneymen went on to win.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said New York skipper Eric Sieg.
