Mud Hens Turn Back Wildwood, 8-7
|
The Great Black Swamp Mud Hens topped the Wildwood Fishers, 8-7, with second baseman Clifton Byrd playing a big role. Byrd went 3 for 4 with 2 triples and a double. He drove in 3 runs for the Mud Hens in the win. Great Black Swamp reliever Dudley Yates picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Jeff Moore absorbed the loss. Great Black Swamp occupies 4th place in the Patriotic League Independence Division at 72-73.
The Mud Hens got a big at-bat from center fielder Sam Wallace. For the game, Wallace was 2 for 5 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 77th hit of the season gave Great Black Swamp a 6-5 lead.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Byrd, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
