Turkey Vultures Bang Out 6-2 Win Versus Great Black Swamp
|
Central Valley right-hander Juan Varela pitched his team to victory over the Great Black Swamp Mud Hens at The Euclyptus Nest. The final score was 6-2. Varela got the win, improving to 15-7. He allowed 10 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Varela allowed 2 earned runs. Reynaldo Morán notched his 42nd save in 47 chances.
The Turkey Vultures got a big at-bat from second baseman Sixto Corona. For the game, Corona went 1-2 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 11th double of the season gave Central Valley a 4-2 lead.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Varela told the Central Valley News. "It's as simple as that."
The first-place Turkey Vultures, at 81-50, now lead their division by 8˝ games.
