House of Brews Win in Extras
The Newcastle House of Brews faced a tough opponent in Wicker Park pitcher Steve Whisenant, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Devil Cat Park by a final score of 4-3. Whisenant went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Newcastle reliever Doug Grimes got the win, raising his record to 7-11. Brian Ball was tagged with the loss. The House of Brews improved to 58-58.

The House of Brews got a big at-bat from third baseman Paul Vickers. For the game, Vickers went 3 for 6 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the 14th, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 40th hit of the season gave Newcastle a 4-3 lead.

After the game, Newcastle manager Paul Collins applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
