Devil Cats Lose, 5-3, at Quick Stop Stadium
|
The Wicker Park Devil Cats got a superb performance from pitcher Bob Gilbert. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Asheville. The Boomsticks won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Gilbert was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Luis González got the win, improving to 3-12. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Bill Chambers got the save, his 5th in 5 chances.
The biggest at-bat came in the top of the eighth. The score was 4-3, Boomsticks. With a runner on 3rd and two down, Dave Hopkins retired Juan Ibáñez with a 2-2 curveball. Ibáñez, who is rated as the 59th best prospect by BNN, grounded out.
