Game 5 was big. So was Brian Smith.

The Wildwood starter rose to the occasion at Hayden Fry Field today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Fishers to a crucial 9-0 victory over the Iowa City Stalkers. Smith threw 9 innings of shutout ball as the Fishers won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Alexander Hamilton Cup.

Smith pitched a complete game for Wildwood. The right-hander was charged with no runs on 10 hits. He struck out 10 during his 147-pitch performance.

Smith offered a curt "no comment" when asked to discuss the win after the game.

The next game is set to be played Saturday in Madison. The scheduled starters for the game are Ernie Simmons for the Iowa City Stalkers and Tim García for the the Wildwood Fishers.
