Devil Cats Clip House of Brews 3-2 in R2 Contest
|
Despite a great performance by Newcastle starter Will Gómez, the Wicker Park Devil Cats defeated the House of Brews by the score of 3-2 at Moses Fleetwood Walker Park today. Gómez threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball to earn player of the game honors, but could not prevent the Devil Cats from moving one game closer to the Ben Franklin Cup. Wicker Park now leads the Alexander Hamilton Cup 3-0.
Wicker Park used the bat of Kanjiro Takahashi to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Devil Cats ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Takahashi told the Wicker Park Chronicle.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Newcastle. The scheduled starters for the game are Dan Taylor for Wicker Park and Dave Garrett for Newcastle.
