Red Birds Need Extra Frames to Get Past Boomsticks
Behind the hitting of Eduardo Martínez, the Columbus Red Birds stopped the Asheville Boomsticks, 7-6. Martínez was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Red Birds. Columbus reliever Matt Bailey was the winner. His record is now 7-0. The losing pitcher was Steve Emery. The triumph puts Columbus at 92-63 for the season.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the tenth, with Columbus trailing 6-5, Martínez hit a fastball from Steve Emery for a 2-run home run, giving the Red Birds the walk-off win.

Martínez said afterward that he was "glad the fans were treated to a good ballgame."
