The Columbus Red Birds had to overcome a big game from Texas second baseman Hung Shao to leave The Cavern with a victory. And they did, winning 5-4. Shao was 3-4 with 2 doubles. Columbus catcher Kamala Kamaluhaiakapu contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a forkball into right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 107th hit of the season and put the Red Birds ahead, 3-1.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Texas manager Todd Newcomer. "But we decided not to take it."
