Red Birds Bridle Shamrocks, 3-1
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Letterkenny Shamrocks and Columbus Red Birds get after it.
The Columbus Red Birds picked up a win at Griffith's Park, courtesy of Scott Thomas. The right-hander helped his team stop the Letterkenny Shamrocks, 3-1. Thomas, the winner, moves to 9-4. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks.
In the bottom of the sixth, Columbus first baseman Eduardo Martínez put his team on top. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit his 31st home run of the year. Letterkenny pitcher Jorge Reyes served it up. Just like that, the Red Birds were ahead, 3-1.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Thomas.
The first-place Red Birds, at 66-41, now lead their division by 7 games.
