Red Birds Deal Hitmakers 4-3 Loss
|
Ernesto Vernal had a good game, but he could not keep the Motown Hitmakers from falling, 4-3, to the Columbus Red Birds at Old League Park. The Motown first baseman was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 in the loss. The winning pitcher was José Soto. He's now 8-4. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Red Birds. Rickey Gentry notched his 16th save in 22 chances.
Columbus relied on the hitting of Ricardo López to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Red Birds on top, 3-1. For the game, López had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Motown manager Corey Slutsky.
With the win, the Red Birds have a record of 57-37.
