Squids Prevail, 3-1, Over Phoenix
|
The Cummaquid Squids picked up a win at The Ashes, knocking off the Phoenix Downs, 3-1. Starting pitcher Jerry Elder, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Greg Soto converted his 20th save in 27 tries. The 7th-place Squids improved to 37-49.
In the top of the fourth, Cummaquid third baseman Del Morris had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and two out, Morris stroked a 2-run home run to left-center. It made the score 2-0, Cummaquid. For the game, he went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Morris attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
