Red Birds Lose to Boomsticks, 4-2
|
Asheville turned a good effort from starter Stanley Allen into a win over the Columbus Red Birds at Quick Stop Stadium. The final score was 4-2. The winning pitcher was Allen, now 2-1. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Steve Emery, credited with the save, is now 14 for 14 in save opportunities.
Ken Whitaker took José Soto deep in the bottom of the fourth. His 2-run home run put the Boomsticks on top, 2-1. In all, Whitaker had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
In postgame remarks, Whitaker said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
With the win, Asheville upped its record to 36-30.
