Boomsticks Deal Hitmakers 4-1 Defeat
|
Asheville and Motown duked it out and the Boomsticks came out victorious.
The Motown Hitmakers got a superb performance from pitcher Bob Buckley. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Asheville. The Boomsticks won the game, 4-1. Buckley threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. Walter Johnson picked up the win with 6.2 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 5-3.
Asheville left fielder Hayden Wells had a key at-bat for the Boomsticks in the top of the seventh inning. Facing left-hander Armando Torres, Wells hit a 3-run home run. It put Asheville in front, 4-1. For the day, Wells was 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Asheville manager Jon Papp.
The triumph puts Asheville at 24-17 for the season.
