Stalkers Win, 8-7, in Extra Frames
|
The Iowa City Stalkers trumped the Great Black Swamp Mud Hens, 8-7, at The Nest. Iowa City first baseman Jesús Peña was terrific. He was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Harold Parker, now 2-1, was credited with the win. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Iowa City, at 18-20, holds down 5th place in the To The Wall Baseball Patriotic League.
Iowa City used a timely hit from Dan West to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Stalkers ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I hate to be the fly in the ointment," said Peña, "but we could've played better."
