Stevens Slugs Turkey Vultures to 6-3 Win
|
The Central Valley Turkey Vultures knocked off the Newcastle House of Brews, 6-3, at Moses Fleetwood Walker Park. Melvin Stevens was a big reason Central Valley won. The right fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Tim Payne, the winner, improved to 2-5. He held the House of Brews to 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 0. The victory puts Central Valley at 12-22.
Central Valley took a 5-1 lead on Stevens's 8th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Dave Garrett in the top of the sixth, propelled Central Valley to the win.
"It was a solid team effort," said Stevens after the game.
