Turkey Vultures Handed 6-4 Loss by Asheville
|
The Asheville Boomsticks beat the Central Valley Turkey Vultures, 6-4, at Quick Stop Stadium. The Boomsticks got a fine performance from designated hitter Júlio Bautista, who went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Edward Franco, now 1-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. The win puts Asheville at 17-13.
Bautista contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Asheville in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Bautista took a fastball from Phil Powers and stroked the home run to left. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Boomsticks to leap in front, 4-3.
"Enjoyed this one," Bautista told the Asheville Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
