Red Birds Lose to Downs, 4-2
|
The Phoenix Downs picked up a win at The Ashes, knocking off the Columbus Red Birds, 4-2. Starting pitcher Ken Richard was a big reason why. Richard, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Lyndon Hosking got the save, the 6th for him this season.
Mike Little had a timely hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two out and a runner on 2nd, the Phoenix second baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Downs in front, 4-2.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Phoenix manager Walt Partlo.
The win puts Phoenix at 11-11.
