Boomsticks Nip Red Birds, 4-3
|
Asheville picked up a win at Quick Stop Stadium, bumping off the Columbus Red Birds, 4-3. Pitcher Lien-ying Xun was a major reason the Boomsticks emerged victorious. Columbus drops to 11-7.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Asheville trailing 3-2, Ken Whitaker hit a fastball from Rickey Gentry for a 2-run home run, giving the Boomsticks the walk-off win.
In comments to the Asheville Gazette, Whitaker insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
