Newcastle turned a good effort from starter B.J. Young into a win over the Reykjavik Phoenix at Flaming Ashes Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. Young went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9. His record improves to 3-0. Will Starks locked down his 4th save.
Newcastle needed the clutch hitting of Alfonso Medina to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the House of Brews on top, 3-2. For the game, Medina had 2 home runs and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Every loss stings," said Reykjavik manager Arthur Ecklund. "This one is no exception."
The House of Brews, now 10-3, have been on fire in the early going.
