Portland Shuts Out Hermosa Behind Rivera, 1-0
It wasn't easy but the Portland Penguins made it look that way.

Starter Manuel Rivera shut out the Hermosa Beach Whales despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Portland Penguins cruised to victory, 1-0. Rivera allowed only 1 hit and rang up 10 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

In 12 starts this year Rivera has crafted a 5-5 record and a 3.18 ERA.
