The Western Patriots did just enough to sneak past the Garland Commanders, 2-1, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Western pitcher Johan Santana, in particular, had a standout performance. The victory makes Western 20-44.

The Patriots got a big at-bat from shortstop Lutfi Samman. For the game, Samman went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Western a 2-1 lead.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Garland skipper .
