Commanders Come Up Short at Western
|
In a tight contest at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Western Patriots edged the Garland Commanders by the score of 4-3. Western right fielder Hank Aaron, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Mariano Rivera earned the save for Western, his 15th. The Patriots bumped their record to 22-13 with this latest triumph.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied, Carlton Fisk was at the plate when Western scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Patriots to go in front, 2-1.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Western manager Tommy Lasorda. "It's usually not just one thing."
